Republican Leader

Pearl-Burris Floyd is a proud Republican woman and serves in the North Carolina General Assembly as a member of the House of Representatives. Rep. Burris-Floyd is the first African American Woman elected to serve in the NC House. Her immediate past public service as a Gaston County Commissioner from the Dallas Township 2001-2008, and Vice-Chair 2006-2008 launched her career as a servant leader on which she has served two terms.  She  currently has the privilege serving in the NC House of Representatives, representing both Cleveland and Gaston Counties in District 110.

Proven Public Servant

A recognized community leader, Pearl use her God given talent, skill, compassion and intellect to represent her constituents and the great State of North Carolina as a member of the following committees: Aging, Health, Appropriations, Mental Health Reform, Education, Campaign Finance Reform, Joint Health Oversight Committee and the North Carolina Institute of Medicine (NCIOM) Task Force on the Elderly and Medically Fragile.

Pearl serves on the Gaston County Republican Executive Committee, the Cleveland County Republican Executive Committee,and many other community and state organizations.

One of Us

Pearl is a native North Carolinian and a product of Gaston County’s public schools. Pearl graduated from the University of  North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine Cytology School and is an Internationally Recognized Cancer Detection Specialist. Upon her election to the NC House, Pearl resigned as Section Chief of Anatomic Pathology and currently works weekends as a Cancer screener at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, North Carolina.

Pearl is an active member of the First Baptist Church in Dallas, where she teaches Sunday school. She is the proud mother of Jessica, who after working as a CBS affiliate reporter, is currently studying law.
