Charlotte Regional Partnership NC Legislators Reception I attended the Charlotte Regional Partnership NC Legislators Reception in Concord, NC. on 2/18/10. NC Jobs & Economy forecast was presented and left all who heard the news with a sick feeling. NC Economic Forecast according to UNCC Economics Professor Dr. John Connaughton predicted a slow recovery through 2010. The loss of 95,400 manufacturing jobs that are not coming back, the lack of consumer confidence due to unemployment nearly 10% plus decreased consumer credit support the slow recovery. 11 photos |

Civil Rights Law Class at NCCU School of Law As part of Black History Month, I was invited to speak to a Civil Rights Law class at the North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Law. The class is taught by Professor Irving Joyner, renowned Civil Rights Attorney. It was an opportunity of a lifetime and one I will cherish. Talking about pressure, not only was there Prof. Joyner but 20 of the sharpest developing legal minds in the country. One never knows what opportunity is just around the corner. Soar Legal Eagles! 7 photos |

Gaston County Firefighters Association Awards Night and Meeting It was such a tremendous privilege to attend this event. These brave men and women are unsung heroes. They place themselves in harms way for the least of us. The only response that they give is that they are just doing their job. The Gaston Firefighter of the year was honored along with the four nominees for the annual award. It was a privilege to sit with them, hear their concerns and share in their well earned recognitions. It was my pleasure to present a North Carolina state flag to the Tryonata Fire Department. Fly it with pride. The photo album begins with a seat by a cozy gas stove. The stove warmed my body but just sitting on the sofa between these everyday heroes warmed my heart. After all of the excitement was over, Tryonota Firefighters simply settled into their favorite card game, as they waited for the next opportunity to answer the call to save a life. It was truly a great evening. My prayers and those of countless citizens are with you. Keep up the phenomenal job and know that I am here to serve you. 38 photos |

The weather was snowy but the brilliant warm sun melted all of it away. At the luncheon, Con. Howard Coble and NCGOP Chair Tom Fetzer were featured speakers. Other notables in attendance were NCGOP Vice Chair Dr. Tim Johnson, Representatives Julia Howard, Jamie Boles, George Cleveland, Sen. Harrison Blake, Judges Barbara Jackson, and Anna Marie Calabria, Sheriff BJ Barnes. Rep. Pearl was part of a panel along with Rep Julia and Sheriff Barnes that discussed winning campaign strategies. 20 photos |

Habitat Service at Hardin Campus of Venture What a blessing to be a part of the Southeast Dallas Revitalization Program from the beginning. I remember that hot summer day when a community came together to witness missionaries in action. Hardin Baptist, now known as Venture shared their vision of launching its partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Gaston County to build at least one house a year in southeastern Dallas. As stated on their website, "The location of the groundbreaking is a lot HBC recently purchased and has been deeded for three houses. In addition, HBC wants it to be understood that a key part of their partnership with Habitat is to select homeowners from within the neighborhood. The goal is to empower the citizens of the neighborhood." By accepting God's vision and using God given blessings, we will rebuild a community, one family at a time. Thanks be unto God who gives us the victory. 6 photos |
